Greater Albany Rotary Club's Four Avenues of Service

Community Service

Vocational Service

The Job Youth Fair Committee has outstanding representation by GARC with eight members on that committee. Unfortunately, relatively few members have participated in this outstanding contribution to youth career development. This year the committee is aiming to accurately identify the members who have served in the past (estimated at 11) and to double that number this year.
Vocational Awareness Committee now has three members and is increasing the number of members presenting. We are striving to deliver the four vocational presentations originally scheduled for Vocational Awareness Month (October) and develop additional presentations by members throughout the year. The committee also is investigating means of publicizing the distribution of vocations amongst the current club membership and considering ways to improve the representation of under represented categories.
The Venturing Committee now has four active members. The core group of young people (14-20 year olds) is focused on a Spring time robotics competition. The committee is supporting their efforts. Committee members are planning a variety of projects for throughout the year to combine elements of career exploration, especially in techinical fields, and outdoor adventures. The committee enjoys strong support from parents of the youth involved in this club.

International Service

A container with an emergency generator and medical supplies has just been sent to a hospital in Uganda.
Discussions with the Sweet Home Rotary Club about a joint medical container shipment for 2004 have been started.
We are working with Soroptimist International to fund an all women project in Uganda and hope to have funding by early next year if the details can be worked out.
The next Matching Grant application for Uganda is in progress.
The Ecuador Wheelchair project is complete and we should have a final report this month.
A wheelchair project in Laos is being investigated. Assistance from Rortary International will be required since this is not a Rotary country. This project will probably occur in the 2004/2005 Rotary year.
